{"id":9501,"date":"2026-06-05T10:20:35","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T10:20:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aisfor.it\/aisfor-and-the-assert-project-at-the-contractors-european-meeting-on-energy-poverty\/"},"modified":"2026-06-05T10:38:37","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T10:38:37","slug":"aisfor-and-the-assert-project-at-the-contractors-european-meeting-on-energy-poverty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aisfor.it\/en\/aisfor-and-the-assert-project-at-the-contractors-european-meeting-on-energy-poverty\/","title":{"rendered":"AISFOR and the ASSERT project at the Contractors&#8217; European Meeting on Energy Poverty"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 19 and 20 May 2026 AISFOR, as coordinator of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aisfor.it\/en\/progetto\/assert\/\">European project ASSERT<\/a> (Addressing energy poverty and disability through local action, training and empowerment), participated in <em>the Contractors&#8217; Meeting on Energy Poverty<\/em> organized by CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency) in Brussels.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event brought together the main projects funded under the LIFE and Horizon Europe programmes committed to combating energy poverty, with the aim of encouraging the exchange of experiences, identifying opportunities for collaboration and strengthening dialogue between European projects and policy makers.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The European policy context: the next EU initiatives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first day opened with a session dedicated to the framework of European policies for a just energy transition. During the discussion with representatives of the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission, some of the main regulatory and strategic developments currently being prepared at European level were illustrated. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Initiatives announced include:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the update of the <strong>European Recommendation on energy poverty<\/strong>, expected by the end of 2026;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>new <strong>European Commission guidelines on energy communities and self-consumption<\/strong>, accompanied by a specific Action Plan;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>future <strong>European guidelines against energy disconnections<\/strong>, with the aim of strengthening the protection of vulnerable consumers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Particular attention was paid to the new <strong>EU Anti-Poverty Strategy<\/strong>, adopted by the European Commission on 6 May 2026, the first comprehensive European strategy dedicated to the prevention and reduction of poverty. The strategy sets out a pathway to achieve the European target of reducing the number of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion by at least 15 million by 2030 and contributes to the broader ambition to eradicate poverty by 2050. The proposed approach integrates quality employment, access to essential services, income support and greater coordination between different levels of governance.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These developments confirm the growing recognition of energy poverty as a social and energy priority of the European Union and reinforce the need for inclusive and territorial approaches such as those promoted by LIFE projects.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ASSERT protagonist of the session dedicated to the role of public authorities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the second day of the AISFOR event, the <a href=\"https:\/\/assert.aisforacademy.eu\/\">ASSERT<\/a> project represented the parallel session <strong>&#8220;Engagement of public authorities to mitigate energy poverty&#8221;,<\/strong> dedicated to the involvement of public administrations in the prevention and fight against energy poverty.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The session brought together four European initiatives \u2013 ASSERT, Energy Poverty Nexus, CETAC and LOCATEE \u2013 united by the goal of strengthening the capacities of local and regional authorities in addressing energy vulnerabilities through innovative tools, expertise and governance models.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the meeting, AISFOR presented the approach developed by ASSERT, which addresses the link between energy poverty and physical disability through a training and mentoring program aimed at couples of municipalities and social intermediaries in five European countries: Italy, Spain, France, Greece and Cyprus.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Particular attention was paid to the importance of integrating the disability dimension into local policies on energy poverty, an issue that is still little considered but essential to ensure a truly inclusive energy transition. The experience of ASSERT has shown how collaboration between local administrations, civil society organisations and disability actors can contribute to developing more effective interventions that are more responsive to the needs of vulnerable people. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The discussion with the other projects also made it possible to compare approaches and methodologies for the involvement of public authorities, highlighting the strategic role of local authorities in identifying vulnerable families, planning support measures and promoting participatory pathways.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>An opportunity for discussion and construction of synergies<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participation in the Contractors&#8217; Meeting represented an important opportunity for AISFOR and the ASSERT consortium to compare themselves with other European projects, institutions and stakeholders engaged in the fight against energy poverty.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event confirmed the European Union&#8217;s growing focus on integrated solutions that combine social inclusion, access to energy, energy efficiency and the participation of local communities.
